pai thi kong...9th day of CNY

Back in the days when I usually celebrate CNY and experience the whole stretch of 15days in Penang, the atmosphere is always different as compared to the ones I have been experiencing for a few years now in KL. However, I do not know what the first two days in KL are like as I was always back in Penang and I have never missed celebrating CNY with my family before. How different one may ask? Well, for instance, during the 9th day of CNY which is known to the Hokkien "tribe" as "pai thi kong", it is actually the official new year for the Hokkien, I think. I ain't too sure myself actually! *haha*  My dad's a Hakka, my mom's a Hokkien and my paternal grandmother is a Cantonese, which explains why I'm 1/3 Hokkien, 1/3 Hakka & 1/3 Cantonese, but the original one should be Hakka and heck, I cannot speak a single word of Hakka. Not only I can't, my father can't either!  So I guess that's self-explanatory enough

Tonight is the night where the Hokkiens should be busy with their preparations to usher in the so-called actual new year for them. When the clock strikes 12 sharp, the firecrackers will be blasted throughout my neighbourhood in Penang. During those days, I was frequently woken up by those firecrackers (supposedly banned in Malaysia, konon!). When I'm in the mood, I would enjoy the environment and atmosphere by running out to my house porch to watch the fireworks display, yes, some actually played the fancy fancy ones, but usually the traditional ones should be that long red firecrackers which will end with an enormous blast. But when I'm not in the mood, I will usually be screaming hysterically in my room requesting them to shut the hell up and wished that the PDRM will do their round checks in my neighbourhood. *muahahahaha, evillish grin*  You see, I'm from a Sekolah Kebangsaan and NOT the sekolah JENIS kebangsaan and yeah, there wasn't any holiday the next day, it was a school day alright. Heck, the next morning I'd usually be moody and would probably murmur nonsense to myself as it had always felt as though I've only slept for 20minutes. That also explains why I'm such a pig (refer to previous post).

For the past few years when the 9th day of CNY came and went by, it has always been peaceful in KL. Perhaps, the Selangor state isn't as infested with Hokkiens as it is in the Penang state. Or perhaps I'm staying in the neighbourhood whereby not a lot of Hokkiens are staying. *shrugs* Whatever it is, I am definitely thankful that it is how it is as I can now have peaceful nights of sleep.  Tomorrow's a working day! Darn, I hope there's no Monday Blues......................................................which is not likely to happen.

a PIG i am...

I've practically been sleeping the whole darn day... gosh, I am officially a self-declared pig! Yeah, slept so much... Sometimes I thought instead of wasting my time watching movies, tv, reading, I might as well just sleep it off. Perhaps it's the CNY that exhausted me, I dunno... but I dun really think it's the CNY festivity cause I've ALWAYS LOVED SLEEPING and I still do!  I have a Korean colleague who shares the same interest in sleeping like I do, she calls herself "big pig" and labelled me the "small pig". Heck ya, she can really sleep, even more than I could, hence the labels.  Being lazy is another issue but at times, I really just wanna sit and hang out at home doing practically nothing, except the usual must-do activities.

By the way, I'm born in the year of the pig based on the Chinese zodiacs and mind you, I am proud to be one! *muahahaha* Piggies are cute, adorable creatures okay?  I'm not saying I'm one... but in general.........you get the picture, say no more.  According to some fengshui master from somewhere around this globe, apparently it's a good year to marry for the ones whose zodiacs are like mine, pig, boar...whateva, you know, the last animal in the cycle. So where are my marriage proposals?!?!?!?! Well don't bother, cause I'm very likely (actually very sure) to turn them all down including my own bf's as of now because I'm not ready to setup a family yet and c'mon, for the love of God, I'm only 22 turning 23 this year! Gimme a break... unless there are other circumstances (and NO, I don't mean "accidents") perhaps I might consider but as far as I'm concerned, there's practically no reasons to and SHOULD NOT have one either. Unless, my bf strikes sudden wealth and we don't ever have to worry about finance ever again, well I will very well just marry off! *hahaha* Do I sound desperate? *hmmmm.....checks myself in the mirror* I hope not, because I am not...bahhhhhhhhh...... snort snort away.......

I am BACK!

Ahhh... mua IS back... in KL, well not exactly, more precisely it should be Selangor, but heck almost everyone refers to both KL and Selangor as KL!  Somehow this year's CNY wasn't as "happening" as it used to be as compared to the past few years. *sigh*  When I was young, I had a marvellous time playing firecrackers with my cousins and brother, running around like some crazy maniac children. Now, no firecrackers allowed anymore as they're practically banned by the government but somehow, we have come to accept that not all Malaysians abide by the rules nor do they follow the book.  The other day I came across an article from The Star where China's government has just lifted their ban on firecrackers this year and instantly enough there are cases reported of injured citizens due to the firecrackers. *sigh* My conclusion is, human NEVER learn! Period.

Came back today, my bf and I headed to the cinema after a few hours' rest to catch the British movie, "Keeping Mum", starring Rowan Atkinson. I'm not gonna do a review on this one as I think it was worth every pound & penny watching it. Though since I'm in the Malaysian land, the currency should very well be ringgit.  It was a good light-hearted and humourous comedy, at times either the jokes were rather dry perhaps, or the cinema just wasn't full enough, or the other patrons are plainly NOT the humourous type or maybe it was just me and my bf who were practically weird, because there were parts we thought funny and we chuckled, heck it felt as though we were the only two weirdos chuckling or giggling.  Still, I will conclude that it is indeed a good show, Atkinson's character suited him and no, this time he didn't look like the famous role / character he's been playing all his life in Mr. Bean.

CNY madness

We could see the decorations being put up everywhere, from residential homes, to the hypermarkets / dept stores to the streets. The lanterns are usually the favourite with the "dong dong chiang" music everywhere! Went to Tesco the other day and there were like only abt 4 - 5 trolleys left and the rest were basically grabbed by the crazy shoppers, and there were basically traffic congestion in every single aisle in Tesco. *sheeesh* My bf and I decided to take the hand carry basket instead of jamming along with the other shoppers where there were basically not an extra inch to move around. We picked up our stuffs and off we went, and came to another type of congestion, which is to queue up for payment. Although all cashing counters were basically open, it just looked as though it wasn't sufficient or speedy enough to cater for all the shoppers not to mention all shoppers seem to have grabbed every single thing they see on the shelf!!! It somehow spelled "Hey, guess what, the goods were FREE OF CHARGE, just grab, no payment needed!" Yea, I think Tesco made hell loads of money out of the festive seasons that's for sure! Mannnn...

Anyway, I cant wait to go home myself... Have to wake up early just to go home to avoid the rush and jam considering I'll be one of the people making the last minute journey! Heck, it's the job, now in the working world, it's no longer like how it used to be when I was a student, always the first to get home!
